A Message from the President

Roadies, the committee has decided that a return to Pasadena High School for our Tuesday training sessions will allow an opportunity for the whole club to train together more easily and these sessions will start in late September. More details will come out soon from our training coordinators on what you can expect.

I’m also delighted to announce that Paul Amato will be our next club captain and look after the A Grade for Season 2016/17. More details on his background soon – but many of you know him already and he is also a premiership player from Peto’s triumphant Section 2 team of 13/14.

For those keen on a hit – informal sessions will begin this Sunday from 10am in the Cage. By informal I mean that they are not sessions that Stef and Paul as our training coordinators will run – it will just be a casual hit up for anyone keen.

We will have special offers on Roadies clothing – we have some left over social shirts in particular – you will see information about this soon on the website and Facebook page.

Please also remember that there is a vacancy on committee – anyone who is keen on stealing a nip or two of Graham’s Scotch whilst we have our meetings should let me know…..

See you soon,
Barn

Season 16/17 Update

Roadies – our committee has met and started our discussions around our on field and off field roles with lots of excitement and commitment from the team to deliver a great season for you all. We have Stef Potts and Paul Amato committed to providing you with training coordination – our sessions will have more variety and structure and we have a Cricket Director – someone to overview all things cricket – in Daniel Vertue. Please join me in thanking these guys for weighing in to keep the Roadies great!

We are also giving consideration to returning to Pasadena for a training night mid-week – to allow more variety and a bit of connection between fielding drills and the usual net sessions. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Last year the clothing effort from Luke Woolman was an outstanding highlight – so much good Roadies gear on display at trainings and on game days. With a huge commitment to a new business Luke has decided he had best focus on that for the year and has stepped down from committee. This leaves a vacancy that we are interested in knowing if anyone is keen on joining in the fun. Thanks to El Breakthrough for all his efforts and all the best with Brightspace Homes.

Adrian Woolman has stepped into the gap on the clothing front and will pick up where Luke has left off – and he will be ably assisted by Matt Potts – his new style guru. We can no doubt look forward to the new Roadies Sleeveless Jackets…. Need to keep the guns on show.

Turning to on field leadership we send a call out to any interested folks who would like to lead our club on field in Captaincy roles this year. As is our custom all of the roles are open – though return applicants from last year would be most welcomed. Please reach out to me directly or to Dan Vertue to discuss further.

Stay well.

Roadhouse!

Season 2016-2017

Roadies – hope the winter weather is being kind to you all. The committee have been working together on our plans for the years to come and we are keen to get feedback from all of you on where to from here.

We have been able to easily reach agreement about what it is that we love about the Roadies and what it is we would be proud to be a part of into the future. Our sense of friendship and family, our regard for the game and how it should be played and the contributions we all make as Roadies to our community, the causes that matter to us and to the care and growth of each other were common to us all. Forming a consensus on a vision for our club has been easy – we are a Charitable Community Cricket Club. We are proudest when we are giving to each other to help improve our lives – whether that be socially, professionally or in a sporting context and when we are supporting causes that are meaningful to us such as in the past with the Leukaemia Foundation, Flinders Medical Centre, Pink Stumps Day and Movember. These moments of community engagement have given all of us a great deal of pleasure and this committee is excited about continuing on with that tradition.

What I’d love to hear from you all is ideas on causes that you are passionate about and that you feel the Roadies should be supporting for the year ahead. I’m hopeful that we can find a number of causes we can get behind and support in true Roadies style. Feel free to contact me directly – details below – or to reach out to a committee member to pass along your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you.

We will also turn our attention to the season ahead – things such as Captains, grounds, playing fees, training coordination and social activities – and should you have a particular point of view or an interest please also feel free to reach out.

The Edwardstown Oval redevelopment project continues to progress with the Election being a pivotal moment in the application before the Federal Government. These are exciting times to be a Roadie and I will have further information to you as it all unfolds. Our training nets are in good order – our gardener Barry Voeges is keeping the grass in good order and council have placed new sight screens (tarpaulins) behind the bowler’s arm to enable better visibility and also allow a bit more privacy for our new neighbours. Anyone who is interested in using the nets for a training session please let me know and I’ll coordinate a key for access for you to use.

That’s all for now – take care until next time,

Darren Williams
