South Road Cricket Club

Round 4 Wrap from El Presidento

Howdy All, latest round results, A grade 1st win for season and a good result, outright defeated Morphett Vale Cricket Club. Scores MV 53 South Road 6/97, MV 110, South Road 0/68. Congratulations to Matt and the boys. Brett (Kiwi) Baldey scored his maiden 50 for us, well done Kiwi and Darren (Barney) Williams took another 4 wickets. B grade went down to North Haven, C grade lost to Morphett Vale and the D’s forfeited to Sheidow Park.

From a club perspective and my own it was disappointing to forfeit a game and have to divide up players to make up numbers for two other teams. I understand that there were some exceptional circumstances this round with the Test Match being played in Adelaide on the second week of the game. Our association put out the program well before the start of the season and our club along with every other club had the opportunity to have input and change this fixture however none of us did, perhaps a reflection of us as clubs not understanding the impact that the Test Match may have on this round of matches.

Have heard a disturbing whisper/rumour yet to be substantiated that players may not wish to play where they are currently being selected. This goes against the culture we have at South Road and are continuing to develop. All members/players at South Road are encouraged to think of and treat fellow members/players as your mates. In other words South Road is one big family made up of 4 teams who are all mates with each other. So regardless of what side you are selected for you will always be playing with your mates. We are are an inclusive club at South Road and encourage membership from all backgrounds, gender, race and religion. So get around South Road and play where you are selected and have a great time with your mates.

Milestone game, next round of matches sees Shaun Krutli play his 100th game for our club. Congratulations mate, many of you know of Shaun as one of the clubs premier cricketers being a past A grade captain scoring a record number of centuries – 8, being the A grade keeper for a number of years, representing our club in premierships, and T20 sides and also representing ASCA in inter-association matches. However many may be unaware of Shaun’s outstanding work off the field, he has been on the clubs Committee of Management for a number of years, President of our club for two seasons, worked on the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association as a member of their executive board and represented ASCA on the SMCA board. Currently Shaun is heavily involved with the restructure of the Ovals Committee and renewal of facilities at Edwardstown Oval including the relocation of our nets from Robert Street onto the oval complex. So Shaun is more than just a cricketer. The club and I would like to wish him every success in his 100th game and may he play another 100.

Next round of matches is a one day round, don’t forget the big Table Tennis night on next Saturday night in the Footy Club rooms after presentation. So get around South Road and show your support.

Just one more thing there have been some devastating bushfires just north of Adelaide, perhaps we could use next Saturday night to raise money to assist with their cause. Just a thought!!
