South Road Cricket Club

‘Teams’

Round 2 Wrap from the President.

Our results are getting better, 2 wins out of 4 for this round, with some notable performances throughout the grades. Firstly congratulations to Roger and his fourths their first win of the season and Rogers first win as a South Road Captain, Luke and the thirds just keep getting the job done, well done to both side. While the A’s and B’s both went down there are some encouraging signs with both teams having interrupted starts to the season, with player availability hopefully things will settle in the next round.

Noteable performances from Round 2 include Matthew Haybell 69 in his first A grade game, Darren Williams 5/25 not bad for an old fossil and Anthony May 4/69. Jim Colley 60, Rliey Hains 48, Roger Ross 4/40, Dawood Choudhry 3/16, Roger Nunn 54, Jordan Bocock 46 and Poul Petersen 4/20. Well done to all of you and keep up the good work.

Great to see Dan Vertue and Dave Roberts back playing. Dan congratulations on your recent nuptials (Marriage to Nicole) all members and the club wish you all the best for your future life together.

It was a good response from players re their subs this last round, the main reason behind our subs is so that all players can continue to play cricket for our club. We have financial obligations to the association, umpires, ground hire, Marion Council and equipment used. This enables the club to provide a game of cricket for all of you. Please remember to pay your match fees to your captain each game or you can make a once off payment to Treasurer Barn and if paid before Christmas a substantial reduction can be had (only if paying subs in full)

A positive is the number of players attending after match drinks and presentations, good numbers again at EBC. Remember to encourage your team mates to attend, part of playing at South Road is to get back and have a yarn and drink, celebrate our wins and commiserate our losses.

Some funny things I picked up on this last round, one of the new players to the A grade had some trouble with getting into his whites. I would have thought by now champ you would have learnt how to put on trousers! Who was the skipper that needed to go and meditate with a walk along the beach after his match? Then tried to claim it was a recovery session as advised by former player and now Port Star Hamish Hartlett. To the guy that has been fortunate to be around when the winning runs have been scored in the last two games, listen champ, it takes more than scoring 7 odd runs to be considered a finisher or closer but keep dreaming champ and let us know when you wake up.

Cheers for now, get around the Roads for the next game and look for a function after match awards on Saturday 14th November

Regards, Steve Mitchell

Round 2 Match Presentations

Warne Balcony Match Presentations this Saturday Night at Edwardstown Bowls Club from 6:30pm onwards.

Please make the effort to attend and support your Club. All Players are expected to attend. Wives, Girlfriends and Family welcome as always.

Round 1 – Week 2

From the President.

Firstly I need to apologise to all members, after telling everyone last week about the Tradition of After Match Presentation at South Road, I was unable to attend the first one of the season. However that will be the only one I will miss hopefully.

While the results may not have gone our way this round apart from the Thirds, Congratulations to Luke and the boys, I have seen some encouraging signs both at games and practice.

We have a number of new players that I would like to welcome to the club, if I have not met you yet I will do my best to catch up. So with the new players and some regulars returning to our sides, this weeks selection of teams will hot up, which means competition for spots – always a good thing.

Captains have asked me to remind players that training commences at 5.30pm sharp, please make every effort to be there on time so captains can allocate appropriate time for all batters and bowlers. If you can’t make practice by 5.30pm because of employment etc. please let your Captain know.

Subs and match payments are important to the running of our club, please ensure you become financial. It may be game by game or if paid in a lump sum prior to Christmas substantial savings can be made.

Lastly the Club and all it members would like to congratulate Kristin and Matt Potts on the birth of their first child, Benjamin Thomas Potts born on the 5th of October. Well done guys, enjoy parenthood.

If you have something you would like the club to know, something that has happened in a game, or just something funny relating to a member and providing it is in good taste I will get out on this blog which I hope to do after each match.

Regards, Steve Mitchell

Round 1 Match Presentations

Match Presentations this Saturday Night at Edwardstown Bowls Club. 6pm onwards in the Lounge Area.

All Players are expected to attend. Wives, Girlfriends and Family always welcome.

Lets bring home 4 wins and celebrate with your Clubmates, continuing the South Road Tradition.

Round 1 – Week 1

From the President.

Great to see the season is under-way, not without some issues at the selection table on Thursday night, requiring me to front up in the thirds and field (my body is not happy with that).

A mixed bag of results so far the 1’s made 181 and Plympton 0/40, need quick wickets there. 2nd’s made 146, Coromandel 1/60 need quick wickets also. 3rd’s rolled Warradale for 163 and in reply are 2/65 less than hundred required, bat all day next week. 4th’s made 192 and Port Noarlunga yet to bat, well done Roger and your guys.

Remember your match fees can be paid to your respective Captains. Match presentations next Saturday night will be either at Edwardstown Football Club or Edwardstown Bowls Club. Stayed tuned. It is important that we all get around the after match Presentations on Saturday Nights even if it only for an hour. It is part of the tradition of playing cricket with South Road.

Good luck to all next week.

Steve Mitchell
