Round 8 President’s Report

The sun has come up again, and we have 2 wins for this round. The A’s and C’s were big winners, the B’s lost outright and the D’s went down. Scores to follow, A grade defeated Morphetville Park 1’st innings 165 and 8/190 we declared at 2/172, best with ball Darren (Barny) Williams 5/45, best with bat Leigh Von Duve 84 no, Shaun Krutli 59 no, well done to Leigh his highest score for the club. B grade 42 and 95 lost to Mitchell Park 191. C Grade defeated North Haven, we made 9/188 North Haven 166 best with bat Luke Woolman 33 best with ball Greg Anderson 3/27, Dawood Choudhry 3/28. D grade lost to North Haven.

At the moment the C grade have moved back into the four and are on 34 points 4 points clear of the 5th side, over the next 3 rounds the C’s play sides below them on the premiership table one of those teams is the side in 5th place so they need to win all remaining games to keep their place in the top four and play finals. If you are playing in the C’s make sure you get to training every practice night to give yourself the best chance of being selected and continuing to win games. As a club get around Luke and the C grade to support and encourage them for their remaining matches leading up to the finals. (more…)

Round 7 Wrap from the President

While round 7 was disappointing that we lost all games, it is not all doom and gloom. The A grade were playing Keswick for the Maetze/Bradbrook Cup. Keswick made 259 and South Road were dismissed for 240, a narrow defeat probably helped by the sides inability to hold catches on the first Saturday. Watching the game I was impressed by the determination and fight showed by the lower batting order and with a bit of luck we could have won the match. Unfortunately the B’s went down to Warradale, The C’s lost to ICC Sharks as did the 4’ths.

However there was some outstanding individual efforts during this round of matches Shaun Krulti scored another century he now has 9 for the club breaking the previous record jointly shared by him and former player/life member Andrew Amos congratulations Shaun. Some might say an unknown batsmen made his maiden century for the club in the 4’ths yesterday well done Dan (plumber) Virtue beside you, only two people in the club believed you can bat, one was Roger and the other shall remain nameless. Graham Hartlett played his 100’th game for the club might not have been memorable game for you “greybeard” but it is a great milestone so well done and hope you feel better soon. (more…)

PRESIDENTS PRE-CHRISTMAS MESSAGE. Apologies to everyone for not getting the following President’s Message out earlier, Steve sent the following just before Christmas.

Round 6 was a right off due the hot weather on the second Saturday of the round. Not having a crystal ball I could not predict how we would have gone but we may have won all three of those matches. Unfortunately the B grade had already lost on the 1st innings the previous Saturday. (more…)

D Grade Round 3 – Day 2 Wrap

It was an overcast day on Day 2 at Brighton High. A good omen for South Road, who were bowling and defending 133 to win.

Opening the bowling from the Southern End was the star with the ball from the first two games, Poul Petersen. He bowled a vicious spell to begin with and was unlucky not to strike early on. (more…)

D Grade Round 3 – Day 1 Wrap

South Road travelled to Brighton High to face Warradale in an eagerly anticipated match. The conditions were bright and sunny with a nice sea breeze. Warradale won the toss and their skipper uttered the exact words: ” We’ll-have-a-trundle!” It was a surprise to the Roads, who would have batted first anyway. The wisdom behind the decision being that Warradale would try and knock South Road over quickly and have a bash, then get the Roads back in before stumps on Day 1.

D Grade Round 2 – Day 2 Wrap

Penned by Mark “Warney” Mitton

It loomed to be an important day for South Road as they continued their Round 2 match against Coromandel Ramblers at Weymouth Oval. Having set a good total of 212 on the board on Day 1, it was always going to be difficult to chase for the Ramblers. Under nothing but blue skies, South Road began with the same intensity as they did against Port Noarlunga, with positive talk amongst the fielders as they looked to get their first win on the board. The openers, Edmiston and Muir could not lay a bat on either Bocock or Petersen early on and they were setting themselves up for diaster. It was inevitable when Bocock trapped Edmiston lbw for 1 with not many runs on the board for the Ramblers.
